Follow the money
Free means no monthly subscription. Transaction costs still apply. Your fee-payer setting determines what gets added to the client’s checkout and what comes out of your deposit.
Illustrations on Free in USD, using its 9.9% LVL2 booking fee and a US domestic online card processing model of 2.9% + $0.30. This is not a live checkout quote.
Amounts are rounded to the cent. Client-paid processing is grossed up because the processor also charges on the added fees. With split fees, processing shares can differ by a few cents. The deposit is advance payment toward the tattoo, not extra revenue. A reduction in client-paid fees reduces checkout friction for your client—it does not create cash savings for the artist.
Pro’s 0% LVL2 booking fee does not remove processing fees. Under the same card assumptions, an artist-paid $100 Pro deposit leaves $96.80 before other costs.
LVL2’s merch fee is a share of net profit, never of the gross sale price. Net profit is defined as the retail sale price minus base item production cost, shipping, and applicable taxes/processing fees:
Net merch profit = gross retail sale price − item production cost − shipping and taxes
For example, on a $30.00 t-shirt with $15.00 base production cost and $5.00 shipping ($20.00 total costs), net profit is $10.00. On Free (30% share), LVL2 takes $3.00 and the artist keeps $7.00. On Plus (20% share), LVL2 takes $2.00 and the artist keeps $8.00. On Pro (10% share), LVL2 takes $1.00 and the artist keeps $9.00. If there is no profit on an item, no platform fee is charged. Actual production and shipping costs depend on Print-on-Demand item specifications and customer delivery destination.

A practical cost check
Tattoo booking software costs more than its monthly subscription. Compare subscriptions, payment processing, booking fees, optional payout charges, add-ons and merch fees—and identify who pays each one. LVL2's plans are Free, Plus and Pro. Free refers to the subscription price; applicable transaction fees still matter. Estimate monthly value using time saved and incremental appointment contribution, minus artist-paid costs. A deposit applied to the final tattoo price is advance payment, not extra revenue.

Time saved has value only if you can use it; it is not automatically cash earned. A lower client-paid booking fee is not an artist cash saving. A deposit applied to an appointment is advance payment, not additional appointment revenue.

The paid examples assume moving from Free to Plus at its displayed monthly USD subscription (or Pro at $99/mo), no other incremental costs, and one additional appointment contributing $60 after its variable costs in the first example. Replace those assumptions with your own evidence. Include setup time, payment processing you bear, optional payouts, taxes and other incremental costs before deciding. If a cost is unknown, the result is incomplete. No reduction in no-shows or increase in earnings is guaranteed.
